Consistency Builds Trust Before Customers Even Buy

Hey, it’s Troy Trussell, host of the Strategic Motion Podcast. If you’re reading this, I’m guessing you’re looking for clarity and actionable advice to move your business forward, and that’s exactly what this blog post is all about. Let’s dive into one of the most powerful yet often overlooked principles in marketing: consistency.

We all want that viral moment, the video that blows up and suddenly gets everyone talking about you. But here’s the truth: viral success is rare, unpredictable, and honestly, it’s not what makes a brand last. The real results come from doing the small, boring things well, day after day.

Most businesses don’t fail at marketing because they’re bad at it. They stumble because they approach marketing in short, sporadic bursts. Maybe you’ve done it too. Have you ever posted a flurry of videos one week, then disappeared for a few months, only to randomly resurface with a reel and wonder why nobody’s engaging.

Here’s my favorite analogy. Marketing is like going to the gym, eating healthy, or saving money. If you only do it when you feel like it or “have time,” you’re not going to see results. You need regular reps with steady, intentional action over time.

Let me share what I see every single day working with business owners. Consistency is the catalyst that builds trust before a customer even becomes a customer. By showing up regularly, people recognize you. They remember your voice. They feel as if they know you and that’s what makes you a trusted authority.

Ever had someone walk up and comment on your vacation, even though you haven’t spoken to them in months? That’s the magic of social media. When you post consistently, your network feels connected to you. Apply that same principle to your business, and suddenly people know who you are and what you offer, even before they need your services.

Take my local BNI group, for example. One of the best ways to get known, liked, and trusted is simply showing up every week. The more you participate, the deeper those relationships get.

Remember that story from episode one, a single video I produced for a client that’s still driving business four years later? One video can absolutely generate results. But imagine if you created a whole series—posting monthly, weekly, or even twice a month. The effect compounds. Your content “stacks,” boosting your presence, your voice, and your authority.

That’s what Strategic Motion is all about. Content with a plan and a purpose, not random posting. You want movement that actually propels your business forward.

I’ll let you in on a secret. Consistency doesn’t mean posting every single day. Daily posting can help, but only if you pair it with intentionality. If you’re posting just to check a box, you might actually be hurting yourself.

The key is to stop and plan. Develop intentional posts that support your objectives. You don’t need a fancy production team. You don’t need cinematic masterpieces. Your first videos will probably be bad (mine were…and so were those of every successful creator I know!) But you have to start somewhere. Post anyway. Audiences appreciate authenticity far more than polish.

Success comes from picking a schedule you can stick to, whether it’s once a week or twice a month, and staying consistent.

Let’s make this super actionable. Here’s what I recommend:

1. Choose One Platform (90 Days):

Don’t stretch yourself across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube. Pick one, and go all-in. If you’re in the B2B space, I’d start with LinkedIn. Already established elsewhere? Stick with what’s working for your audience.

2. Monthly Theme:

Focus your content around a single theme each month: FAQs, customer stories, tips from the field, behind-the-scenes, product deep-dives. Create one reel or video per week on that theme, and supplement with three-to-four simple photo or static posts.

3. Repurpose Long Form Content:

Have a podcast or record longer videos? Upload to YouTube and your website. Cut them into short, vertical clips for your primary platform. Share links in your newsletter. Squeeze as much value as possible from each piece!

4. Watch Two Metrics:

When you’re just getting started, obsessing over analytics can be overwhelming. Watch for views (how many people see your content) and watch time (how long they stay engaged). Let that feedback guide your next round of content.

A final reminder: Consistency trumps perfection. Pick a repeatable system, not a flawless one. Nobody is perfect. Your content doesn’t need to be, either. You just need to show up, be real, and stick with it.

So, what are you going to create this month? The Strategic Motion Podcast is here to help. If you want steady, strategic content that actually grows your business, reach out at trusslemedia.com. I’d love to help you get moving in the right direction.
